Our Goals

The Hindu Conference of Canada ("HCC") is a registered not-for-profit organization dedicated to upholding and promoting the interests of Hindus across North America. HCC, which was formed in November 2004, differs from most other Hindu organizations in North America in that it is an activist organization; as such, it is well structured to undertake hard-hitting campaigns and perform political lobbying on tough domestic and foreign policy issues.

HCC’s core goals can be summarized as follows:

1. Promotion of awareness and recognition of Hindu accomplishments, values, and issues of concern.
2. Promotion of accurate, fair, and factual portrayals of Hindu historical and current events.
3. Promotion of Human Rights of Hindus in North America and across the world.
4. Lobbying the federal and local governments on key domestic and foreign policy issues that are of particular interest to the Hindu community.

Our Values

1. We believe in a unified Hindu community that works together on issues of importance to Hindus living in Canada. While we recognize and welcome the diversity (both in terms of traditions and practices) within the Hindu community; we also hold in high esteem the shared values of liberty, pluralism, free speech, and democracy.

2. We believe in the equality of individuals, but we also consider individual rights to be sacrosanct. We recognize the distinction between secular and personal/spiritual matters, and do not believe that governments or organizations such as ours should have an antagonistic view on personal or spiritual issues.

3. We are committed to the principle of Human Rights and will endeavour to uphold the rights of Hindus in Canada and across the world. We recognize that human rights abuses against Hindus are taking place in a number of countries across the world, and have resolved to inform the broader Canadian and world society about these abuses. We will also lobby the Canadian to bring about a timely and just resolution of these matters.

4. We fervently believe in an accurate and fair presentation of history especially as it relates to the Hindu tradition and India. We do not believe that history should be qualified or distorted by considerations such as political correctness or other strategic motives.
